I don’t have a video for this recipe.
If I had a photo, I would most certainly use it. That is... unless the photo I have sucks. For now, you'll just have to picture a big heaping helping of
Jollibee (Filipino) Spaghetti
...in your mind.
Jollibee (Filipino) Spaghetti

Jollibee (Filipino) Spaghetti

If you've never had Filipino spaghetti, you're in for a treat. It's sweeter than your everyday spaghetti, plus the hot dogs make it super fun. And if you can find the red Filipino style hot dogs, even better.

Serves 4-6

Ingredients

  • Neutral oil

  • 4 red Filipino hot dogs, sliced thin diagonally - btw regular hotdogs will work just fine (tho won't be as colorful)
  • 1 yellow onion, diced small
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Kosher salt & coarse ground black pepper
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 cups spaghetti sauce, homemade or any jarred version will do

  • 1 cup banana ketchup if possible (you can get it from Amazon here), or if using regular ketchup I'd add another 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • White shredded cheese for garnish

Directions

  1. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large pan (with a lid) and add the hotdogs, cook 3-4 minutes or until they start to brown at the edges, then remove
  2. Add a bit more oil, then put in the onions and cook 2 minutes until just softened, then stir in the garlic
  3. When fragrant, add the beef and cook until no longer pink, breaking it up to a fine mince as you go
  4. Season with salt & pepper, then add the brown sugar, banana ketchup, tomato paste and spaghetti sauce - mix really well
  5. Stir in the beef broth, bring to a low simmer, then cover for 15 to 20 minutes until thickened
  6. Cook the spaghetti
  7. Add the hot dogs back into the sauce, stir well, then plate the spaghetti, top with the sauce and finally a sprinkle of the cheese
  8. Serve and say "masiyahan sa iyong pagkain" - enjoy your meal!
