I don’t have a video for this recipe.
If I had a photo, I would most certainly use it. That is... unless the photo I have sucks. For now, you'll just have to picture a big heaping helping of
Burger Dog
...in your mind.

Burger Dog

According to Golfpass.com, one of the best burgers in golf is at the Silverado Resort, in Napa, California. And we think we've made it better by adding the chipotle bacon jam to go with it.

Makes as many as you like

Ingredients

Chipotle Bacon Onion Jam

  • One pound bacon, maple bacon if you can find it, finely chopped
  • 1 red onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large tomato, finely chopped (about a cup)
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2-3 tablespoons minced chipotle peppers
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/2 cup apricot jam

For Each Dog

  • Approximately 3 ounces ground beef
  • Kosher salt & coarse ground black pepper
  • Buns
  • Mayo
  • 1 slice American cheese

Directions

Make the Jam

  1. Cook bacon in a large skilled until about 3/4 done, when it starts getting super foamy you know ur there
  2. Remove 3/4 of the grease (save for something else) add the onions and mix well
  3. Cook 3-4 minutes, then add garlic, stir through for about a minute then add tomato
  4. Mix well then let simmer about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the color deepens
  5. Add vinegar, chipotles, pepper and jam - stir well to combine and turn to low and leave it mostly alone 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally
  6. Put in a bowl and use either right away or at room temp later

For the Dogs

  1. Shape beef into hot dog shape, slightly longer than the size of your bun
  2. Season with salt & pepper, and cook on a grill, flattop, pan - whatever works
  3. When it's almost done, add mayo to cut side of bun and grill face down, add cheese to the burger dog
  4. Spread more mayo on the toasted bun, add some bacon jam and finally the burger dog
